Calgary Sparks Volleyball Club

Congratulations to the Calgary Sparks 16U Ignite team who won their final match at the Alberta Volleyball Association Provincial Championship to finish their season 13th out of 59 teams.  16U Ignite faced the Calgary Dino's 16U Gold team in the final match and came away with the win.

16U Ignite, along with Calgary Sparks 13U, 14U, and 15U teams, now shift their focus to preparing for the Emerald City Classic tournament in Seattle at the end of May.

The Calgar Sparks 13U Shock competed hard at the Alberta Volleyball Association Provincial Championship over the weekend.  After a close match against the NAVC White Panda's in the Finals, the NAVC White Panda's came ahead in the third set, moving on.  This placed Shock in the position of competing for 5th place overall against the 13U Pandas from Edmonton.  The match went to three sets and shock won 15-6 in the third, ending the weekend on a winning note.

13U Shock now focuses on preparing for the Emerald City Classic in Seattle, WA at the end of May. Great job Shock!

After losing a close match against the Pandas in their cross over game, the Calgary Sparks 13U Shock finished off their AVA Preimier 2 tournament by winning all their remaining playoff games and winning the consolation medal.  Great job Shock!

Continuing with a busy weekend for the Calgary Sparks Volleyball Club, both the 15U and 16U teams participated in their AVA Premier #2 Tournaments.

15U Fusion had a strong showing in their round robin pool, finishing 1st.  They ended up finishing 4th in Division 2, climbing a staggering 20 ranking positions since their last AVA Tournament!  Great Job Fusion!

16U Ignite finished 3rd at their Division 2 AVA Premier 2 Tournament.  The girls overcame a 16-25 loss in the first set and won the next two sets 25-19 and 15-8 to take home the bronze medal.  The 3rd place finishing will move the team to Division 1 at the next AVA Premier.  Way to go girls!

The Calgary Sparks 13U and 14U teams were in Lethbridge today for the LVC Bantam Tournament.  14U Flare came through with a strong finish, placing 4th out of a total of 10 teams.  13U Shock finished 1st in their round robin play, ultimately finishing 2nd overall.  Great job girls!

The Calgary Sparks Midget Open was a huge success and we would like to thank everyone who participated.  Due to a team dropping out at the last minute, the Sparks Ignite 16U team divided into two squads in order to keep the round robin pools full.  At the end of the day, one half of the Ignite team came in first, Brooks Rush 16U came in second, and the other half of the Ignite team finished third!

The Calgary Sparks 16U Ignite team had a strong finish this weekend at their AVA Premier 1 tournament in Calgary.  In their final match the team fought hard, winning the match in the third set with a score 15-13 to capture the Bronze Medal!  Way to go Ignite!

The last few weekends have been good for the Calgary Sparks 13U Shock team.  On March 3, the team competed in the Caroline Volleyball Club's Bantam tournament, coming in second overall out of 10 teams.  On March 11, the team competed in the SEAVC Bantam tournament in Medicine Hat where they finished second overall out of 9 team total.  Way to go Shock!

The Calgary sparks 17U Blaze team went 6 - 1 this weekend at the AVA Premier 1 tournament in Calgary.  Although a three-way tie for first place in their round-robin pool kept them out of the Division 1 finals, they won all of their remaining games and placed first, winning the gold medal in the consolation finals.  Way to go Blaze!

The Calgary Sparks 16U Ignite team is hosting a Midget Open tournament on March 24 (both 15U and 16U teams accepted).

8 teams maximum, 4 games guaranteed.  Entry fee is $200 and the event will be hosted at the Calgary Christian School.
