12U Atomic - General Information
Atomic Volleyball is a fun, 10 week program designed for athletes between the ages 8 and 12. It was designed by Volleyball Canada as part of their Development Model to teach the basic fundamental skills of the sport of volleyball in an exciting way and prepare the athlete for the more complex 6 on 6 game when they are older. The Calgary Sparks Atomic program is open to both boys and girls. Each athlete will receive a club t-shirt.
The program will run once a week. Each practice is two hours long. the first portion of the practice will focus on skills. The remaining portion will involve game-play where the athlete can use their new skills in game scenarios. Games are played 4 on 4 to increase the number of contacts that each athlete has with the ball. The following skills will be covered:
- Setting Skills: Overhead Passing and Back Setting
- Passing Skills: Forearm Pass
- Serving Skills: Underhand Serving and Overhand Serving
- Attacking Skills: Spiking and Tipping
- Defensive Skill: Blocking
- Defensive Skill: Stride and Slide
- Team Play
After all of the skill sessions are completed, the remaining sessions will involve tournament play.
Jared Mathes will be the head coach for the 12U Atomic program. Additional coaching staff may include other Calgary Sparks head coaches, assistant coaches, and senior Calgary Sparks club volleyball players.

Registration
We will be hosting both a Monday and a Tuesday session, starting September 12, 2011. Each session can accommodate 32 athletes. The cost for registering in one session is $150. If you would like to register your child in both sessions, the cost is only $250. All registration fees are non-refundable.
Although the first practice for Atomic Volleyball takes place on September 12th, we will continue to accept registrations up to and including September 19th. For those who want to register late, please fill out the registration forms and e-mail them to us, and bring your payment to the next practice.
All athletes will be registered with the Alberta Volleyball Association and Volleyball Canada. All athletes will be covered under the Sport Liability Insurance program offered by the Alberta Volleyball Association.

13U Club Tryouts
Atomic Volleyball is a great way for female athletes to prepare for 13U club tryouts. As an added incentive for athletes who register in both Atomic Volleyball sessions, we are also including free registration for 13U club tryouts in November.
Practices
Practices will be held at Our Lady of Evergreens School in Evergreen (South West Calgary)
Practices are from 6:30 - 8:30 PM.
